Hannah Luxton - Veiled Infinity
21st November 6:30 - 9pm
22nd - 24th November and
29th - 1st December
Hannah Luxton plays with the Romantic notion of portraying divinity through nature by juxtaposing definite geometry against the ethereal and indeterminable, such as weather, light, space. She explores questions around the sublime, and how symmetry and symbolism play a part in this. Working with drawing, photography and painting, Hannah takes from her immediate surroundings, seeking out moments of natural composition in both the city and the natural landscape.
This practice focuses on a paradoxical relationship between the physicality of line, colour and texture on a surface, and the representational space within the frame. These ideas occupy different times, whereby surface provides an immediate sensory experience, and representational space requires duration for ones imagination to inhabit emotionally.
Hannah was Born in London in 1986, where she lives and works. She completed her BA in Fine Art at Kingston University, and graduated with an MA from the Slade School of Fine Art in 2012, with distinction in her Dissertation, ‘Veiled Infinity’. She has exhibited widely in London and the UK with fellow artists. Shows include ‘Synesthesia’, Darnley Gallery (2013); ‘One of the Forgotten’, Frameless Gallery (2012); ‘Parallax Art Fair’, La Galleria (2011) and ‘New Things I Would Like to Tell You’, Stanley Picker (2009).
Hannah has been commissioned for several public art projects including the City of London Festival, Lindt Big Egg Hunt 2013 and the 500 Festival. Awards include the Betty Malcolm Scholarship for Stage and Decorative Painting (2012), and the Painter Stainers bursary for Fine Art (2011). This October she will be an Artist-in-Residence at the Trelex Artist Residency programme in Switzerland.
In September 2013 Hannah founded and launched a new project called Footfall Art. In collaboration with construction giants, Macai, she directs a monthly exhibition programme in the windows of their London Bridge office.
