Neil Irons is a Scottish-born contemporary artist associated with Blackhorse Lane Studios in Walthamstow, East London. He has been based in London since 1987 and moved to Blackhorse Lane Studios around 2008.
His practice spans multiple media including painting, sculpture, ceramics, drawing and film. His work is often described as figurative and narrative, exploring themes of everyday life, politics, society, intimacy and contemporary media imagery.
Neil studied BA (Hons) Fine Art (Painting & Drawing) at Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art (1983–1987) and MA Fine Art at Chelsea School of Art (1987–1988)
He is well known for running and curating artist-led exhibition spaces in London and Public art commissions and community arts projects. in 2013 he curated the exhibition Behind Closed Doors at BAGT's ArtWorks Project Space.
In a biographical statement, Irons describes his work as an attempt to understand “how we live the way we do and why we do the things we do.”
